A Family Business

The Beginning

In 1947 Fred Buesching uncovered rich peat moss on his family farm and a business was born. He started digging and selling the rich peat moss. At that time Fred probably never dreamt that 75 years and 3 generations later, the business would be a thriving landscape supply store for northern Indiana.

The Next Generation(s)

Fred’s son Kenton, who worked alongside him, took over operations of the business in 1970 and moved it from the farm to the current pit location at the corner of Cook Road and Lamlie Road.

For years, Kenton worked at the yard while his wife Janne did all the bookkeeping. The busy season for peat moss also happened to fall during the busy season for the farm. With the help of his father and his son Dan, Kenton was able to run the business while they took care of the farm and their 400 head of hogs.

Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

Dan went into partnership with his father in 1987 and took ownership in 1992 when Kenton decided to enjoy retirement.

On any given day you can stop by and catch Dan or Ginger at the front desk there to welcome you. Occasionally there is even the 4th generation there working and learning the ropes of the family business. The entire Buesching’s family looks forward to serving you quality products, at a great price with friendly service.

We hope to see you soon!
